Branson, MO is the hub of a two-county region home to 80,000 year-round residents. Tourism is the main industry of the Tri-Lakes Area with millions of visitors spending approximately $1.7 billion locally each year. There are more than 200 retailers at outlet shopping malls in Branson and over 100 retail shops at Branson Landing. Cox Medical Center Branson is a full-service hospital with a renovated emergency room, women’s center and more. Branson Public Schools serve K-12 students, while higher education includes College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, MO. C of O ranks among the best in several categories including “No. 1 Best Value Regional College in the Midwest,” according to U.S. News & World Report.

CLIMATE

Weather in Branson is characterized as humid subtropical with conditions typical of a continental climate. Yearly averages include 44 inches of rain, 209 sunny days, eight inches of snow, summer high temperatures around 90 and winter low temperatures in the 20s.

From outdoor fun to live entertainment, Branson has something for everyone. Silver Dollar City, Dogwood Canyon Nature Park, Titanic Museum and Top of the Rock are just a small sample of the delightful attractions. With 50 theaters and more than 100 shows, audiences can watch country, pop, classical, magic shows and more throughout the day. The rolling Ozark Mountains are ideal for water sports, hiking, biking, camping and more. Table Rock Lake is known for world-class bass fishing, while Lake Taneycomo supports superb trout fishing with its cold waters. Bull Shoals Lake is a warm-water angler’s paradise hosting numerous tournaments throughout the year. Special events in the region include Ozark Mountain Spring, Veterans Homecoming and Ozark Mountain Christmas.

HISTORY

A general store and post office were opened in the area in 1882. Industry, banking and resorts developed in the early 1900s and Branson, MO was officially incorporated in 1912. Entertainers arrived in the late 1950s and the first live show in Branson was in 1959.
